Animal Facts

1. A group of kittens is called a kindle.
2. A group of adult cats is called a clowder.
3. A happy cat holds her tail high and steady.
4. A cat's ears pivot 180 degrees.
5. A cat will spend nearly 30% of its life grooming itself. A cat can spend 5 or more hours a day grooming.

6.  A cat will never break a sweat because it has no sweat glands.
7.  A cat has 230 bones in its body. A human only has 206.
8.  A steady diet of dog food may cause blindness in your cat. It lacks taurine.

9. All cats are born with blue eyes.
10. Calico cats are nearly always female.
11. Cats have more than one hundred vocal sounds, while dogs only have about ten.

12. Contrary to popular belief, dogs do not sweat by salivating. They sweat through the      pads on their feet.

13. There are 701 types of pure breed dogs.
14. Though human noses have an impressive 5 million olfactory cells with which to             smell, sheepdogs have 220 million, enabling them to smell 44 times better than man.
15. A dog's whiskers are touch-sensitive hairs called vibrissae. They are found on the       muzzle, above the eyes, and below the jaws, and can actually sense tiny changes in          airflow.
16. Dogs can hear sounds that are too faint for us to hear, and can also hear noises at a     much higher frequency than we can. Their hearing is so good that they probably               rely more on sound than on sight to navigate their world.
17. Dogs' eyes have large pupils and a wide field of vision, making them really good at     following moving objects. Dogs also see well in fairly low light.
18. Dogs have far fewer taste buds than people, probably fewer than 2,000. It is the             smell that initially attracts them to a particular food.

19. Inbreeding causes 3 out of every 10 Dalmation dogs to suffer  from hearing disability.
20. It has been established that people who own pets live longer, have less stress, and       have fewer heart attacks
